This weekend, Lab bid a fond farewell to our up and comer Svein Graaten. Svein is moving to greener pastures in Vancouver and will be sorely missed by his clients and coworkers. If you have a favorite Svein memory, or you liked his work, leave a comment and make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Best of luck Svein, we'll miss ya big guy.

It's great to have one day on the calendar where we feel like we can give a little extra effort to keep the world clean. Go Earth! We all know it doesn't just stop here though. Lab has made a point of choosing greener, cleaner, more responsible options at every turn. Although there are some high wattage tools that are hard to avoid as hairdressers we have made some smart choices to keep our footprint small.

Here's some of what we do to stay green:

• We offer ammonia free color products and endeavor to keep product wastage to a bare minimum


• we also offer several lines of sulphate and paraben free haircare/styling products


• all lightbulbs in the salon are compact fluorescent


• we have high efficiency water heaters


• all of our cleaning products are Seventh Generation


• we diligently recycle and endeavor to use recycled paper


• our business cards are printed on recycled plastic

Today the shop will be closed for an intensive training session with senior Schwarzkopf creative artist Jean Sebastien Lacombe. His work is know around the globe and his creativity is infectious so he is a perfect fit to train our already highly skilled team of stylists.

Lab stylists are great lovers of coffee. This is no surprise to anyone that has been into our little shop on Johnson street because we have been proudly serving top quality single origin beans from Habit coffee (522 Pandora ave.) since day 1.

Just like the friendly folks at Lab, these fine artisans simply know their craft.

In the past we have highly recommended the "always ready French Press" because it is truly amazing. In fact we love it so much we have decided to start serving it in our shop to all our lovely clients.

Come in and have a French pressed coffee while we get you all gussied up!
