Cuts for Coats

It's that time again and the socially minded staff at lab are excited to offer our friends a chance to help those less fortunate in our little city.

Cuts for Coats is your chance to donate that old winter clothing you don't wear in exchange for fabulous hair from your favorite salon. That's right, if you show up with a jacket to donate we will cut your hair for free!

We will be collecting coats all that week for those of you generous folks who don't need a new do. All of the coats collected will be donated to our friends at "Our Place" to benefit the city's homeless and working poor.

Training with David Glover

This past sunday the super creative team at LAB came together for some serious one on one time with internationally renowned session stylist David Glover.

If you have ever picked up a Vogue magazine you have undoubtedly seen David's work. He is know by some of the biggest names in fashion and travels the globe creating some of the best editorial work in the industry.

Turns out he is also passionate about teaching and is one of the nicest people you could ever want to work with.

David generously came and taught us the fresh new techniques to create this seasons most sought after looks. At the end of the afternoon he set us loose on some mannequin heads to ply our new found skills. He even got his hair cut by LAB director Matty Conrad.

A close knit team

So fall is upon us ....... finally. One of the things that everybody loves about fall is the return to layered looks that allow for endless expressions of personal style. Scarves, toques, mittens and sweaters start finding their way back into our hearts and our closets.

Wool is the substance of the season and nobody knows this better than the creative stylists at LAB. After wowing everyone with those gigantic wool wigs at Fall Persuasion 3 our team decided to take it's yen for yarn one step further. KNITTING PARTY!!!

Even though they had the day off these BFF's came down to the shop and taught each other the fine art of the cowl scarf. Seems we just can't get enough of each other.

Hopefully we will have some nice warm pieces ready in time for CUTS FOR COATS on Dec 5th

Fashion Icon.........Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was about as much of a "go getter"(is that what the kids are saying?) as there has ever been on earth. She embodies defiant confidence and as we all know, this year, fashion is about giving the power back to the ladies. Her hair and clothing styles have become inspiration for countless runway shows and fashion trends ( bomber jackets, cavalry pants, and 6 seasons of aviator glasses) and her life's story has inspired an upcoming film starring Hillary Swank.

Amelia Earhart disappeared July 2, 1937. She was an aviator and pioneer. She became the first woman to win the Distinguished Flying Cross after being the first woman to solo across the Atlantic. Earhart worked to inspire and help women interested in flying careers and formed the Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. She disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to circumnavigate the world. Her mysterious disappearance has been a source of speculation and conspiracy theories since 1937.

Matty makes the scene at Contessa 21

Lab director Matty Conrad was invited by Schwarzkopf Professional to be their guest at the 21st annual Contessa awards in Toronto. The awards are handed out to the best and brightest in the hair industry at the biggest bash of the year. Matty loves any chance he gets to share the LAB culture with our friends in the industry, and the chance to meet new friends is what makes these events so much fun.
