Lab in the news

"Look Ma, we're on TV!"
Lab salon was recently featured on local TV as part of ChekTV's "Island 30" segment. We hope to use these segments to bring style to the masses and help break down the feeling that salon styling is something you only get once every 6-8 weeks.

Click the picture above and skip to the 14 minute mark to see our very own stylist Dave Arter in action. You might just pick up a new trick along the way. Keep an eye on Island 30 in the coming weeks and months to see more tips and tricks from lab's superstar stylists.

Remembering McQueen

40 year old fashion icon Alexander McQueen passed away yesterday in his London apartment from what are rumored to be self inflicted wounds. For many of us McQueen’s lines represented a certain theatrical brilliance in fashion. His wildly imaginative pieces heightened the senses and often seemed to border on total madness. He had the capacity to make us feel something with his work. He will be missed.

So this happened...

Lab is extremely proud to say that we are donating $2 from every cut in February to the relief efforts in Haiti via the Canadian Red Cross and moments ago we just donated our first chunk. Thanks to our customers and staff we have done 413 services already in February (!) and that means our initial donation the the Red Cross was $826. Since the donation was made before the cut-off date set by the Canadian government, the donation will be doubled and added to the relief efforts. If you want to get involved with lab's future donation at the end of February just call or go online and book your appointment today!

5 Things you should know about the new parking monoliths.

So you just circled the block for half an hour to find a spot just steps away from our doorstep, and your old familiar friend waiting at the end of your parking spot looks a little different nowadays. Don't panic, lab has some tips to make your stay along Victoria's curbside that much more pleasant.

1. Remember your spot number. If its your first time using the new meters you will probably forget but memorizing it in the future will come in handy. (see 3).

2. Lock the doors because you wont be going back. Once you pay for your time you do not need to return to your car. Put that receipt in your pocket (see 4).

3. Those 4 digits will save your life. So you just parked and you forgot your change and you have to walk 3 blocks to get where you're going. If you remember your spot number you can feed your meter from any terminal in town. Neat huh?

4. Those 4 digits will re-save your life. The haircut is running a little long. If you kept your receipt from tip 2 you can see your spot number. With numbers in hand, go to any nearby meter and re-feed for as much time as you think you'll need. Make sure you don't get caught by the re-feed police though. The parking limit is still just 90 minutes total.

5. Staying overnight? any time added to your spot after 6pm will start ticking down the next day at 9am. If you plan on leaving the car overnight it will give you a little extra time to make it downtown.

Hopefully these tips will make your visit to lab a little easier. If you've never learned to parallel park and parkades are more your thing, we have a whole stack of first-hour-free cards for you to use, just ask!
